Warwick is a fantastic little town and we have been having a wonderful time. Yesterday we walked up into the town to sample all the market had to offer and I have to say it is a good market, I bought meat for the freezer and their fruit and vegetable stall is excellent. Most markets you go to are mostly filled with clothing stalls, but not this one, it was mostly food stalls, bread, fish, cheese, pastries etc, so well worth a visit. Last night we went to our friends apartment in the town for a superb m...
Travelled 13.65 miles, worked 22 locks in a time of 7 hours and 20 minutes. We woke up this morning to wall to wall sunshine and not a cloud in sight. We set off at 8.10am with a view to get as far as we could, little knowing we would go all the way. Top Stockton Lock was the first of the 22 locks to be worked. Luckily many of the locks were either in our favour or boats were on the way up leaving the locks ready for us to use. I had forgotten how much effort you require to wind the hydraulic pa...
Travelled 7.08 miles, worked 3 locks in a time of 2 hours and 50 minutes. Yesterday was such a great day getting the fridge/freezer back and filling it with some food from the butchers and shop. Keith bought some new LED lights for the bathroom and so fitted them during the afternoon as the rain began to fall. We had no plans to go our during the afternoon seeing as the weather was so poor, so the TV went on and we vegged out. Rain blimey did it ever over night. The joy is it is keeping everything t...
Wooo hooo our Fridge/Freezer came home today, all fixed and functioning correctly. Special thanks to Kevin, Sharon and their Dad Bryan of the family business Daventry Refrigeration based here in Braunston, for sorting it out for us and very kindly lending us a temporary fridge whilst they sorted ours out. Especially grateful as Bryan has been recovering from a stroke which he was recovering from when we first arrived. According to Kevin today he has now made a full recovery, in fact he was off to the Gym...
Travelled 11.77 miles, worked 3 locks in a time of 4 hours 15 minutes. We left our very quiet over night mooring at 8.05am, with the sun out but we were always aware rain was forecast again. Newbold Tunnel was beckoning. Its rather sad that only three of the lights are now working, someone needs to change the bulbs. The project to light this tunnel was taken on by British Waterways and Rugby Borough Council at a cost of £200,000, you would hope that in that budget there were spare bulbs, otherw...
Travelled 22.63 miles, worked 12 locks and a foot swing bridge, in a time of 10 hours 30 minutes. This is going to be short and sweet because I have a dreadful signal and I am cream crackered. Last night was entertaining. I went to bed at 9.30pm because I was done in and I was asleep in no time. Keith came to bed sometime after and it was then the entertainment began. Some drunk was shouting over and over again “excuse me” followed by “This is a mooring”, then off he went with “excuse me” again over ...
Keep your eyes open for a boat stolen from Willows Marina Kegworth.http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Canal-boat-stolen-marina/story-18948118-detail/story.html#axzz2T0gO9f6pThe £40,000 boat, Samshiba is out there somewhere. It could have been repainted, but if you suspect you have seen this boat please ring the police or Crimestoppers.
This morning it was a nice start to the day with the sun shining. Paddy and I walked up on to the footbridge at the new Kings Orchard Marina, which is slowly being filled with water. We wondered why there was so much water gushing down the by-weirs as we travelled down the TM. It is nice to see this marina back under construction as it had been halted due to the lack of water last year. Apparently CRT asked the constructors not to fill the marina with the water shortages on, so work stopped. Travell...
Travelled 21.35 miles, worked 8 locks and a swing footbridge in a time of 9 hours 25 minutes. It has been a corker of a days cruising, with all sorts of weather thrown in. I am keeping this short because I have dinner to do and my feet to put up, but just to say it was a long day. If you want to see photographs go to Hadar’s Blog. We did meet up with Sheila and Brunce on Sanity Again. It must be a good couple of years since we got the chance to have a good old chinwag. We had pulled in in front of th...
Travelled 4.85 miles, worked 5 locks in a time of 2 hours 40 minutes. We left our Stone mooring at 8.30am with Dorothy and Jack on NB Black Knight following on behind. The plan was to get as far as possible before the wind got up, because the forecast was not good with strong winds and rain coming in. If it had been chucking it down when we woke up we would have stayed put, but with the sun out and the wind not bad it was off we went. It is so nice to have the Willows cut back along the Whitebridge...
