Going Indie: 100 Places to See in Germany

content discovered on Monday, May 20, 2013

What you can do early in the morning when you wake up smelling the summer in Berlin? You plan some more travels and think about the projects that you always wanted to do. For instance, since I moved in Germany, I always wanted to see as much as possible from the country in order to understand more about the culture and the history. A couple of hours later I launched on Indiegogo100 Places to See in Germany(and write about them). It lasts 44 days and I am really determined to get the funding and sponsor... read more »

Neuschwanstein castle, Germany

content discovered on Friday, May 10, 2013

Today I receivedthis beautiful postcard of Neuschwanstein castle, in Bavaria, Germany. It's situated above the village of Hohenschwangau, near Füssen. It was commissioned in the 19th century by King Ludwig II. I kind of nearly went there myself in 1996 on a school trip to Munich, but starting the year I went the visit to this castle was replaced by a visit to a castle complex in Chiemsee lake, called Herrenchiemsee, followed by an afternoon visit to Salzburg. This can hardly be called a disappointment, a... read more »

Halle an der Saale, Germany

content discovered on Wednesday, May 08, 2013

This is it, the postcard that got my collection started. It wasn't the first postcard that I owned, though. The first one was actually from Berndorf, Austria. I received this one in July 1996from a German penfriend by the name of Daniela. I asked her some questions about former East Germany, and the answer to my question aboutname changes of streets and buildingswas illustratedwiththis postcard. On the back she wrote that the Theater des Friedens (the Peace Theater) became theOpera House, while the Lenin... read more »

Graffiti Galore at Berlin

content discovered on Saturday, May 04, 2013

I had heard about the Berlin Walls and the section they kept for memorial. Fellow traveling friends along the way told me it was beautiful as it was painted in graffiti but what I did not knew was Berlin was already filled with art not just the walls. Weird art with hidden meaning. Kinda suited my dark humor type of leisure. It's said that they change the graffiti every few years ....The east facing side is painted with deep symbolic meaning while he west facing side was left to be ugly with dirt graffit... read more »

Prague To Berlin & A Friendly German Guy

content discovered on Sunday, April 28, 2013

Winter is coming, and I could feel the changes gradually and also through the things which I was obtaining without knowing. I now have a proper jacket, two pairs of gloves a winter hat, more alcohol, … I seem to think I could sustain warmth with alcohol but in reality all it did was keeping my senses numb hence I don’t shiver outside in the cold. Fernsehturm BerlinSo with the upcoming direction towards west Europe where everything would be significantly expensive plus I was headed to Berlin the high... read more »

Why You Should Never Cross Anything Off Your Tr...

content discovered on Saturday, April 13, 2013

There has recently been published an article by one David Landsel in which he disbands the popularity of several pretty famous travel destinations for some pretty horrific reasons. The article has gained quite a bit of popularity on the internet, and has been shared a considerable number of times over social media. As a fellow [...] read more »

Remembering the Dead and Other Controversies

content discovered on Wednesday, April 10, 2013

The Netherlands has a complex legacy when it comes to World War II. Unlike the Allied nations that were in a clear position to deem themselves WWII victors after Germany was divided up, as a territory occupied from the get go, the Dutch never had that privilege. The Netherlands was home to not only the Dutch Resistance, but also many, many other brave men and women assisting Allied troops in any clandestine way... read more »

In Search of the Wild Asparagus, by Roy Lancast...

content discovered on Friday, April 05, 2013

Based on the original Granada TV series, which I never watched, this charming book details the natures, habitats and properties of many of the wild plants growing in the UK. Perhaps this seems an odd book for a writer. But it’s a wonderful source of local detail for stories. Sometimes, the very mention of a specific plant can inject extra atmosphere into a story. Think of the plant poisons that have been used during the ages and the wonderfully evocative descriptive role of plants like waving marram gras... read more »
