A new Texas album has been a long time coming and now, on a new label and sounding refreshed after the long break, they’re back with album The Conversation. The title track signals a return to the simpler production of earlier albums whilst retaining the modern edge of their later releases. And it’s also quite an ear catcher as well – a good start. The last time Texas released an album of new material was way back in 2005 with the somewhat over polished Red Book which none the less contained some top material. Following that album there was a BBC Sessions compilation and a hiatus during which Sharleen Spiteri pursued a solo career and the band's guitarist Ally MacErlaine suffered ill health. But it's 2013 and following the aforementioned hiatus and some intermittent tour dates they're back with a new single and album, both named The Conversation.

They say that time is a silent killer, each tick of that second hand a moment gone for ever. But the ticking rhythm of The Deadline Shakes' latest single Boy is not a killer in that sense of the word. On the opposite, it brings an affirmation of urgency to the song.Although the opening chords are melancholic, the tick-tock catching the listeners ear immediately it's the chorus, part joyful shout part rose-posessed declaration, that impresses the most.
