Discovered on Friday, March 30, 2012

Were back at Dr. Ms office. Its Gavins turn this time. Mama, Can The Brain Be Cleansed?

Discovered on Monday, March 12, 2012

“Mama, can the brain be cleansed? Like when you take a bath, you clean the germs off your body?” asked my youngest last night, right in the middle of Mass proceedings. That made me step back for a moment. In my mind, why this line of questioning? Why did my kid, all of a sudden, wonder whether the brain was like a piece of garment that could be washed off and left in the sun to dry? Having been a parent for 13 years and counting, you’d think I should have known this was coming. But no, I just had no id... read more »

The Week That Was

Discovered on Sunday, March 04, 2012

For the whole of yesterday, Sunday, we were without Internet. Remember that time when I thought it might be the modem malfunctioning? Turned out it was some connector somewhere along the way. We got rid of the connector and got the Internet up and running again. Problem was my newly replaced, brand-new router from this store with amazing customer service in Quezon City found itself bricked again. I am so disappointed. But on the brighter side, my router is still within warranty and they owe me another ... read more »

Hyperacidity In Children

Discovered on Sunday, February 05, 2012

Of late, my twelve-year-old daughter had been complaining of stomach aches. And based on her description, I’m positive the aches are caused by hyperacidity. She had been diagnosed with hyperacidity when she was much younger, and she had been pain-free for many years. Until now. Well, based on first-hand experience – I have hyperacidity, too – hyperacidity can be a recurring malady. I know somebody who has hyperacidity whose mother got it. So putting two and two together – don’t trust my math skills i... read more »

Influenza: What You Need To Know

Discovered on Sunday, February 05, 2012

The flu bug is on the loose … again! At work, despite the whole month of February having been declared critical work month because of the pile of work we have coming, a colleague has it, and I’m suspecting my daughter might have it, too. Given the sudden weather changes we’re experiencing of late, that doesn’t come as a surprise. Influenza, or flu, is a viral illness affecting the nose, throat, bronchi, and sometimes, the lungs. It is a highly contagious disease, transmitted through droplets produced w... read more »

Joke Time, Drawing Time

Discovered on Sunday, January 15, 2012

Today, Sunday, our busted computer is scheduled to hit a computer shop for repair. The boys, having been told they were coming with us – us, meaning myself and my husband – immediately rushed to the bathroom to take a bath. The moment he emerged from the bathroom, wrapped in an oversized towel, my eight-year-old asked, “Mama, why does a vampire use mouthwash?” “Why?” I asked back. “So he doesn’t develop bat breath.” Eyeing the sliced cucumbers I put on a serving plate, along with a serving of mayon... read more »

Lower Back Pain, Proper Posture and Positive Th...

Discovered on Saturday, January 14, 2012

Because seeing an orthopedist was a challenge, the condition I was in a limiting factor, after discussing things with my husband, I opted for massage sessions to alleviate the pain in my lower back. For two days, I stayed home to have those massages. Come to think of it, there wasn't much I could do. Walking wasn't an option, what with the pain I had to endure.Good thing I had vacation leave credits carried over from the previous year. I didn't want to start 2012 with absence after absence from work.Than... read more »

What Is Wrong With Me?

Discovered on Wednesday, January 11, 2012

I man the night shift. Consequently, I am asleep at day. Now Tuesday afternoon, I was awake earlier than usual. And like I always do, I forced myself to go back to sleep until the alarm clock did its thing. That unfortunately was wishful thinking. Sleep proved elusive. Left without much of a choice, I got up and took out the newspaper. To while away the time, I worked on the crossword puzzle I was unable to finish that morning. After poring through a few articles, mostly on the devotion and/or fanaticism... read more »

The Cat, The Bird And The Garbage

Discovered on Monday, January 09, 2012

I was doing a little housework when I became conscious of the fact that Tweety (very ingenious, huh?), our pet bird – a crested myna bird – was croaking its tonsils dry. That is, if they even have tonsils. At this point, the kids were in school already, and I was all alone at home. I went out to check what was going on. Poor Tweety was flying around in circles inside its cage – restlessly, as if trying to get away from something. I inspected the cage and saw nothing out of the ordinary. And then, I be... read more »

The Internet, The Kids And My Sanity Speaking

Discovered on Sunday, January 08, 2012

As of the moment, my Internet connection is running pitifully slowly, and I’m starting to get annoyed. Really annoyed. There are five lights on our Motorola modem – four green, one orange. Yesterday, the moment my six-year-old son relinquished control of the computer to me, the bottom green lights decided to take a nap, leaving me with no choice but to work on offline stuff.Half an hour later, I still was in the same situation. “There might be an outage,” my husband declared. “I passed by a group of men ... read more »
