FIESTA PILAR 2012: HERMOSA STREETDANCE COMPETITION

content discovered on Saturday, October 13, 2012

One of the most vivid and lively activities for the Fiesta Pilar 2012 is the Zamboanga Hermosa Street Dance Competition. I just waited outside of the Don Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Stadium where the dancers were expected to enter. This is not the most picturesque site to shoot for the Street Dance. I think the best place is still the City Hall based on the photos I've seen. However, since I was also wondering where I could catch the Street Dance, I thought I would just position myself here! I'll flo... read more »

Choir Concert and other school news

content discovered on Monday, May 21, 2012

The Shades Valley High School choir typically has several events throughout the year, including a winter and spring concert, and the dessert cabaret, a large fundraiser which the kids have to audition for. However due to various reasons, there was only one concert this year, and no major fundraiser event. This year Safa was part of Concert Choir. Next year she is going to be in Valley Singers, the advanced choir. She was assigned choir as an elective when she was in 9th grade, not something that she chos... read more »

Here Be Dragons

content discovered on Monday, January 09, 2012

I should be embarrassed to say what I am about to tell you... but fact is, I just am not. Which in and of it self is a little embarrassing.Today was a clean my room day. I've been cleaning the whole house lately and not so subtly "forgot" to clean my room. I just don't like cleaning my room. Probably because I have so much crap in it that it really is just more trouble than it is worth. Also, there is something about a little chaos that calms me down. But finally, I decided it is time and I need to clean... read more »

Random musings apropos of nothing

content discovered on Wednesday, September 28, 2011

I put "write a blog" on my to-do list today and I really like checking things off my to-do list, so, here I am...Most of the stuff that has been whirling through my head over the past 10 days would probably make for exceptionally good reading, but this isn't the forum for those thoughts just yet so..um...I like Starbucks oatmeal. They give you brown sugar and nuts and stuff. And you can get a grande tea and oatmeal for exactly $5. Breakfast of Champions, bitches. Fleet Foxes make pretty music. I wish I m... read more »

Gay Okay, Fred is Dead

content discovered on Monday, August 01, 2011

The Wasilla (Alaska) High School Symphonic Jazz Choir practiced the 1975 rock opera hit "Bohemian Rhapsody" all year, planning to sing it at graduation. But when one parent complained that it was inappropriate because its author, Freddie Mercury, was gay (he died from AIDS in 1991, at 45), Principal Dwight Probasco pulled the song from the program. Junior Casey Hight, who sings in the choir, "felt it was wrong" and "discrimination," and pointed out there's no mention of sex in the song whatever. When she... read more »

The Candy Cane Gang

content discovered on Sunday, January 02, 2011

Ten boys at Battlefield High School in Haymarket, Va., formed the "Christmas Sweater Club". Each wore the wildest holiday-themed sweater they could find, and when they arrived at school they sang Christmas carols and tossed 2" candy canes to other students. School administrators put an immediate stop to the cheer. "They said the candy canes are weapons because you can sharpen them with your mouth and stab people with them," said Skylar Torbett, a junior, who added that no one tried to use the candy as a... read more »

The Painter Part Eleven

content discovered on Tuesday, November 09, 2010

“I can help you with history.” The moment those words came out of my mouth, I wanted to grab them out of the air and shove them back in. Jeremy looked surprised at my offer, but smiled and nodded. He told me he would meet me after school and we would go from there. I [...] read more »

Photos from Vietnam

content discovered on Wednesday, September 22, 2010

So I have gotten some excellent photos of Vietnam. I love Facebook. Even though I went to a few schools, I have been able to hook up with some of my schoolmates from a couple of different schools. I have enjoyed catching up with my friends and seeing what they have been doing with [...] read more »
