Many people tell us to let our children enjoy their childhood and not try and teach them reading or writing skills because, in their opinion, this is a sure way for children to grow up too quickly and miss the beauty of these innocent years. I could not agree more up to one point. That is when the child actuallypushesyou to teach them stuff. My 3 and a half years old niece is a tiny, littlepersonwith the brain of a true adult. She wants to learn absolutely everything and if you insist not helping... read more »

You all know how important is to me that my baby daughter and my niece be very sociable and enjoy people's company. I know, from my own experience that being a social butterfly (Social butterflies) and a people's person sometimes plays a dramatic role into one's development and social integration, with only positive repercussions. It's not only that people like and connect better with a smiling, friendly face but it's also helpful for one's own personality and moral, it's very uplifting to b... read more »
It's Tuesday and I'm not working, but I have done so much this morning that I'm almost wondering if it would have been more relaxing to go to work! But with the kids at school I don't have to stop every five minutes and mediate between their fights, so I have got a lot accomplished. I have even got a head start on dinner for tonight! Finally decided to sit down and have a little break.Last night we went to Bilal's kindergarten program at Paine. Can you guess the theme? Yes! All the songs were about zoo ... read more »
Bilal brought home his very first 'Oops' note from kindergarten today. He was devastated, cried for about 20 minutes straight, and was so distraught that it was even hard to understand what he was saying. He is always the best behaved child, who has never moved his pin in class, with more than half of the school year already over. In fact I met Safa's kindergarten teacher at the school today and she was telling me how she wished she had Bilal in her class, because he's always so well behaved. Mrs. E and ... read more »

Not the best outdoor weather, but the kids didn't seem to mind. I was responsible for keeping a watchful eye on Bilal and his cute little friend, who fortunately, was very well behaved. The first stop was a visit to see a pair of six week old calves, Annabelle and Clarabelle. They loved being fed milk from a bottle!Next was ... read more »

My little budding artist! Kindergarten has opened up a whole new world for Bilal. He is starting to sound out words, his 'sight words' recognition is expanding every day, and he is finally enjoying picture books that are appropriate for beginning readers, the ones that he is starting to read himself, with a little help from Mama, falling back on some sight words, and picture cues.Of course listening to him try to read is even more fun when he doesn't sound as nasal as he did today. Yup, Bilal is a littl... read more »
