Tom George is known to many on the Liverpool scene as a musician, poet and journalist, but he has recently been making forays into the art world as a member of the Not Just Collective. Not Just is a loose-knit group of creatives who met whilst volunteering for the Liverpool Biennial last year. Following a debut show at Domino Gallery this January, the collective are now preparing to occupy the Camp and Furnace's Gallery space for a group show entitled 'Recurring'.Featuring ten artists work, the show will... read more »
If you’d have asked me a year ago about coffee and creativity and how they’re linked, I’d have thrown my head back and snorted in derision. Possibly. But back then, no-one asked me, I didn’t answer and now I’ll never know what I would have said or done. But a year is a long time and much has changed since then. Just over a year ago, I emerged, Bambi-like, blinking and not too sure on my legs, as one of Liverpool’s five Cultural Champions. With no real clue what we were doing, the five of us – me, Johny... read more »
Coffee and Creatives Interview sessions continues with our second subject, Rob from Liverpool band Chasing Infinity. Bring on the beans! What inspired your song "Get up"? I was inspired to write 'Get Up' at a time when I was feeling quite reflective over the nature of myself and my personality; everybody has those moments at some point and I felt compelled to write something indicative of that. This is not in a completely negative way mind; I'd like to think that the song conveys a message that says... read more »
It's always nice to see a familiar face in your inbox instead of the usual junk mail that seems to come thick and fast. We've seen Tom George on the Liverpool circuit before and when the video for his latest single, Sharks, out April 15th popped into our inbox it bought back some memories. Check out the video below: With a film noir like feel to the song that is replicated in the shaky camera angles of the video it's an Art house watch that impresses. The brooding, claustrophobic guitar that opens the s... read more »
Have you ever found love on the street? Early in 2012 we were walking in Liverpool's up and coming Baltic Triangle area when we saw it. On a wall, bright in the afternoon sun, the word LOVE. The photograph that you see here was taken on that occasion. As the weeks went by more LOVE tags were spotted around the city centre. As a follower of the street art scene in Liverpool I was fascinated and began looking for them as I went about my business sometimes finding them sometimes not. It was much later in th... read more »
If a potent mix of funk, rap, jazz and more is what you need at this moment then we've got the perfect remedy in the form of Liverpool Stankh collective We The Undersigned's excellent Activation of the Groove E.P. If we were betting types we'd hazard that the sessions for this much anticipated E.P. must have been seriously funky. We keep on saying that the band have a certain voodoo and on the basis of this fine collection of songs and hidden interludes it's something that we can't take back. The Funkad... read more »
So we get a message telling us about this music video we really need to see. So, we checked it out. What's more we recognised a few faces in it as well from a certain festival we covered in depth just a few weeks back. The band also played that festival too and the melody on the guitar strings says they were excelent. Book Thieves recently released this excellent video set in the very familiar confines of Rope Walks in Liverpool. Filmed in the excellent local venue Camp Furnace as well as nearby FACT, i... read more »
