The Dancing Trespassers

content discovered on Thursday, April 25, 2013

When I mentioned to a friend about this blog he shared with me a few experiences that he had while he shared a house with friends in the Central district of Seattle. The following is one of his experiences during his five-year stay. Before living at this house he was a complete skeptic believing that everyone who had a ghost story was trying to garner people’s attention. But, after the many experiences with the paranormal at this house he is now a believer in such phenomenon. When I asked him to tell... read more »

DREAM CATCHER

content discovered on Saturday, April 06, 2013

I was fascinated by native Americans culture since i read a book 'Winnetou' written by Karl May. I found their spiritual world so pure and delicate and their believes based on values so different from the white man. As soon as i saw a stamp 'Dream-catcher' made by PSX on sale i had to have it. As soon as it arrived, i created a card which associates to me with the mystical world of Native Americans. I would like to explain the meaning of this card along with tutorial.I chose the words 'Peace', 'Journey'... read more »

Native Students

content discovered on Thursday, October 18, 2012

Today I attend The American Indian/Alaskan Native College Student Success Symposium. The initial presentation was a study that was conducted regarding the typical challenges that are faced by many Native students, and what can be done to help ensure success. The statistics presenting were astonishing. On average, out of 100 Native students in this country, only 50 will graduate from high school. Roughly 19 of those will enroll in a 2 year college and another 19 will enroll in a 4 year university. Only 7 wi... read more »

Happy Indigenous People's Day!

content discovered on Monday, October 08, 2012

Normally, I would write out a well thought out, articulate essay about a whole host of things that are wrong with Columbus day. This year, though, I'm tired and behind schedule in my school work, so I will give the simplest explanation possible: I don't celebrate genocide. You can quote me on that, btw."Every Native American is a survivor, an anomaly, a surprise on earth. We were all slated for extinction before the march of progress. But surprise, we are progress." ~Louise Erdrich, from First Person, Fi... read more »

Honor your elders...

content discovered on Friday, September 28, 2012

Today I had the amazing honor of meeting Kiowa elder, Dorothy Whitehorse DeLaune. It was incredible to learn by listening to her stories to hear her sing Ghost Dance songs. She is an amazing, inspirational woman. I only hope to be half as wonderful and wise as she when I am 80. She spoke about kinship, naming, other tradition, as well as how the generation gap can sometimes cause conflict in the community. A topic that was particularly important to her was continuing tradition. She told us about the t... read more »
