Complexity is the new minimalism, and more is the new less. Many mature minds today have gotten reasonably used to the complexity and interconnectedness of the world, and we no longer need our technological creations to exude simplicity and purity so that we can let our mind have some breathing space. We are more and more skilled at having our senses flooded while mentally staying at a comfortable level. Now we are ready to bring an intelligent complexity into the physical environment we live in.More and... read more »

My day to day is generally
Fairly ordinary
I come; I go; Sometimes I stay a while
in between.
Perhaps because Im a writer, though
I see instances of poetry
In my ordinary day—
Not that perfect letter poetry
As might flow from the soul
of one more literary than I,
But a style of poetry with a different soul
and a life of its own.
I awaken most days
To a wet nose or furry tail
Tickling my cheek.
Then a musical Good Morning, Mommy
Follows soon after.
Through a rush of hair br... read more »

I used to tag along in a Saturday link up with another blogger, it was about things we were grateful for. I really enjoyed doing it and have decided that one day each week I am now going to post about what I am grateful for, as it appears that the link up is no [...] read more »

The summer before last me and my friend went on an amazing roadtrip spanning two weeks and nearly every state west of Michigan. We saw the Grand Canyon, the Seattle Space Needle, Yellowstone National Park, the Redwoods, etc. One of my favorite things from the trip was Badlands National Park near Wall, South Dakota. We visited on a very hot day in August, it was definitely hotter than 80 out. We drove my little 2002 Volkswagen Golf TDI through the park and stopped for picture and hiking opportunities when... read more »

Monday, January 23, 2012 marked 9 years since I met my friend, Jack. As he does on many holidays and special days, Jack had a gorgeous flower arrangement delivered to me at work. I kept them at work to show off and admire all week, then took them home on Friday afternoon to enjoy them longer (they usually last a couple of weeks).
It was nice to have the flowers at work all that week, giving me something to jump-start happy thoughts during the occasional low points in my days. It struck me how many of l... read more »

Kaleb is home from a fun sleepover night at my moms house, and Im in much better shape than I was when I dropped him off at daycare yesterday morning. Things had been a little tough lately, and Im so thankful to have had a day to focus on me and to do some mental and emotional housekeeping. As anyone whos a parent already knows, you cant be as good a parent if you yourself are falling apart!
A Rough Start to 2012
Back on New Years Day, I resolved that 2012 would be my Year of Acceptance. What I hav... read more »

Dear friends family, you may disregard this message, as it is not directed toward you.
Dear everyone else:
Keep your hands OFF my child.
I realize that I have an adorable kid. No, really, this is not just my motherly bias talking here; I have a really cute kid. However, child or not, he is a full person with all the rights that come with such status. This includes the right not to be groped, rubbed, patted, handled, or otherwise touched without invitation by total strangers.
Legally speaking in t... read more »
