Meatless Monday: Home made Sweet Potato Fries

content discovered on Monday, June 17, 2013

Sweet potato fries are one of my all time favourites, and whenever I go to the states I can't get enough. I don't know why the Sweet Potato isn't something we use much in the UK when it is so tasty and better for you than a regular potato. 1 baked sweet potato has your daily intake of vitamin A... so remember that next time you are out shopping. Ingredients: * Sweet Potato (at least one per person) * Olive Oil * Salt (optional) Method: * Peel the potato and slice into slices/chunks. * Line a b... read more »

A Walk in Haute Provence & The First Signs of S...

content discovered on Thursday, March 07, 2013

The Wild Almond trees are getting ready to blossom with the first flowers making an appearance despite the continued threat of frost. For the last few weeks it has been cold, very cold which is normal, it's winter. We've had plenty of snow and temperatures well below freezing and although winter is very pretty, I would be happy if it lasted about a week and then moved into my favourite season Spring. In 1943 the geographer André Siegfried said that Provence "was a cold country with a hot sun" and it is t... read more »

content discovered on Thursday, January 24, 2013

Hair Tip #5 - Hair Products - Styling

content discovered on Monday, November 19, 2012

Hello beauties!!Sorry for the delay!! As promised, here is the third part of my hair routine series.Once I have washed and conditioned my hair, I use curl activators or gel to bring out my curls. My gel of choice is the EcoStyler Olive Oil Styling Gel extra hold. To prevent flakiness, I tend to mix this gel with some oil (usually my Doo-Gro) or some grease. Also, adding these to the gel keeps my hair from becoming too hard. I tend to use gel when I want to get a 'wet', just got out of the shower look. Fo... read more »

Apple Brie Panini

content discovered on Monday, September 24, 2012

Since I have a highly (I mean HIGHLY) developed palette and enjoy things like butter and sugar and even buttery sugar, I also love cheese with my fruit. Pineapple pizza.  Strawberries and cheese sticks. Jelly and cream cheese sandwiches. Gorgeous green and tart Granny Smith apples with gooey melted Brie cheese in a crispy grilled pocket of goodness. Stud-muffin, on the other hand, does not enjoy fruit with his cheese. He will eat an entire block of any type of cheese and even dip it in cheese or ran... read more »

Buon Appetito! – Food in Italy

content discovered on Thursday, August 23, 2012

Ah, yes. Italian food. The smell of good olive oil and fresh oregano fills the air. Forks are spun and giant knots of spaghetti brought up to hungry mouths. Delicious red wine follows everything. From the checkered tablecloth to the lone candle burning, just mentioning Italian food gets the imagination – and the appetite – [...] read more »

Homemade Italian Dressing

content discovered on Saturday, August 18, 2012

You will probably not be surprised that I just tried to make my pasta salad and got to the last step before I realized that I had no Italian dressing. Ive tried homemade before and it was one of those kitchen experiments that end up in the compost pile: a little runny, a lot sour, and at the same time quite sugary in a granular sort-of-way. I, of course, did not document what I did at that time, but whatever I did, it was not to be repeated. So I was quite hesitant to take on this task again. Its ama... read more »

Les Petites Tables, the perfect stop for a heal...

content discovered on Thursday, July 19, 2012

In mid-July in Provence the heat can be pretty tough. If you’ve ever wondered where everyone is in the afternoon and why all the shutters of the houses are closed, the reason is simple, the heat. Air conditioning is a rare luxury in France and so the technique of opening the windows at night and closing them in the early morning guarantees a cool house for the rest of the day, and it works fine. The other dilemma in mid-summer is eating out at lunch time. If you indulge yourself in lavish menus and cop... read more »
