Today is one of those busy weekends when everyone has something planned (except for me, hah!) Safa left home before 7:30am for day two of a debate tournament in another high school in the area. Last night it was after 10:30pm when she got home. Hopefully today she will be back during daylight hours. She likes to stay with her friends to watch the awards, regardless if she qualifies for quarter or semi-finals.And Hamza was at his school by 7:30 too. Zakir dropped him off for the State high school math tou... read more »
After the 2 or so inches of snow fell yesterday afternoon, the sun came out in all its glory. Sun, finally, after about five days of dull, rainy skies! And with everything blanketed in a thin layer of white it was gorgeous. So out came the kids again, with their jackets and gloves, to enjoy the snow before it was gone. And Bilal had to sample some of the snow! Hmm, tasteless, but oddly satisfying!Bilal was actually the one child to spend the least time outside; he ran into the house complaining that it... read more »
This young man spends more time in the back yard with our pup than anyone else. And sadly, that's not a lot. But where Bilal whines and says, "Will someone come outside and play with me?" Hamza will just go and hang out with Atlas. He doesn't care if anyone else is around. He generates a kind of nervous energy in the dog. They roughhouse together, roll around, get covered with leaves, and eventually Atlas will end up on the ground, totally pooped, begging for a tummy rub.Yesterday I took the camera out f... read more »
Our yard, with it's thick trees, is coated with leaves these days, with more to still fall. Not sure if it's even worth raking them yet. But it sure is fun to be out there!Hamza thought it was great fun to flip Atlas over into the leaves, and Atlas put up with it, as long as he could. He doesn't look as patient in this pic: And Bilal was thrilled with the feather he found. The pup does love a good ear rub! Snuggles. He's the warmest, squishiest pillow! Horsey! Atlas really doesn't like that, he... read more »
Atlas got a thorough blow out this morning. Didn't seem to mind it at all! There was dust and fur flying everywhere! read more »
Does this count as exercise? A hula hoop swinging around her waist, and a cellphone in her hands. Texting like crazy.I booted the kids out of the house this afternoon because they had spent far too much time in front of one screen or another. The boys went into the back yard to play with Atlas, and as usual, Safa wanted nothing to do with 'that dog', so she went on to the driveway. When I suggested that she give her phone up for a little while, since it was just another screen, she substituted it with t... read more »
Can we get a break?! The temperature has consistently in the upper 90s to low 100s for what seems like an eternity. We had a thunderstorm last night, which dropped it a few degrees, and the rain was really needed but by the morning it's just hotter and more humid than ever. But Bilal continues to beg me to come play outside with him. So yesterday I braved the heat, and the mosquitoes, to play in the back yard before dinner. He doesn't care if it's hot and he's sweaty, he just loves to be out there! And... read more »
Last Friday we were invited out by some friends to a picnic. They own some property on Smith Lake. The kids enjoyed playing outdoors, althogh it was quite warm despite being near the water. After a delicious barbecue meal we walked down to the lake to enjoy a ride on their boat. The view of the lake from the boat was lovely. The single photo I took does not do it justice. Sadly, that's when camera battery died! But we did have a lovely afternoon/ evening. read more »
Yesterday evening, after I had cooked dinner, we got a call from Farah asking if we would like to come over and eat with them. Not typical for a weeknight, but who can pass up the opportunity, especially with no school in the morning? Zakir had had a busy day, so he passed up on the idea, but I took the kids over to spend some time with their cousins. Farah had cooked some delicious Biryani, which we all enjoyed, and after dinner the kids went down to the lake with Adeel to sail his new remote controlled... read more »
With the warm, dry weather, we've been spending more time in the back yard. Hamza likes to sit in the shade of the play fort. Bilal even enjoys taking books outside to read. And when he's not reading, he's playing. We've also been working on getting the veggie patch ready to plant. Atlas prefers to stay in the shade. I don't blame him, considering he's still not shed his winter coat! read more »
