Its always amusing to see the phrase old school, mostly because people consider the 80s as old school, and having lived through those years, it doesnt seem all that old to me. However, Ive seen a lot of bloggers joining in the Old School Blogging conga line, as it were, so I decided that seemed [...] read more »

Status anxiety is a kind of deep anxiety and suffering about what others think of us; it’s about whether we’re judged a success or a failure-a chronic disease which afflicts pushy and the competitive parents. In context of Indian parents, we put so much work into raising good and solid kids, we are naturally inclined to want to tell the world about their teens' achievements to get a certain nod of approval or validation or endorsement from the world about our parenting style. A good education is the mo... read more »
Every day my wife and I ensure that our son is safe. We make sure the food he eats is healthy, that he is taken care of and we, like most parents, watch just about everything he does. Partially because of the entertainment value (he is 6) but mostly to ensure that he is doing it safely. It is never easy to be a teacher. I know that because I was one before. When you are facing a class of 30 noisy kids, sometimes your sense of judgement and observation can go haywire. Keatkeat complained to me that his classmate J.D. who queues behind him keeps stepping on the back of his [...] read more »
