And the winner of Photo Fun #45 is......drumroll please.....Jeff B, of Go Travelzing! He guessed my photo was of some sort of cup or mug, and that's what it is. I got a set of these, with matching saucers, in Portugal one summer. I know it looks like a teacup, and maybe that's what the Portuguese use them for, but here in Spain this sort of cup is more likely to be used for coffee with milk at breakfast.
I guess this one was pretty easy, because Jeff got it right away, and everyone else pretty much concu... read more »
It looks as though this time around I picked a difficult object for Friday Photo Fun, since no one got it until yesterday afternoon.Erik, of American in Spain, finally guessed that it was a madroño fruit. In English, the plant this fruit grows on is called a strawberry tree, although the fruits are not strawberries, and while they are edible, they are nowhere near as nice as real strawberries. The bush itself isn't all that special, but when it's full of red berries, it is pretty spectacular.

I survived Catgirl's party (and so did the house), and I'm back to announce the winner of this week's Photo Fun contest. Once again it's Erik of American in Spain, who claims to be my biggest fan. I don't know if he's my biggest fan or not, but he's certainly one of the biggest Photo Fun winners. And this week, he guessed that my photo subject was a fan, or an "abanico", as it's called in Spanish.I used Ultraviolet's fan for the photo, mostly because she always leaves it lying around, and when I saw it t... read more »
I'm a bit late in getting this up today, and as usual I'm in a rush. It's been a busy, busy day. Lots of stuff going on, that I hope to find time to blog about one of these days. But now's not that time. So, I won't beat around the bush. The winner of Photo Fun #41 is Ben, of Quod Erat Demonstrosity. He guessed that the object in my mystery photo was a cheese grater with a red handle. I took the photo of the inside, and I cropped it to make it a little harder, but Ben's a good guesser, and he figured it ... read more »
Is it Monday already? Wow, that was fast. But the weekend's not over for us. Tomorrow is Labor Day here in Spain, so many people are having a puente (bridge holiday) today, including my kids. And since The Professor is off visiting his parents on this long weekend, we girls are spending our time eating ice cream and watching chick flicks. So far, we've seen Amelie and My Best Friend's Wedding, although that last one didn't go over too well with the kids because they didn't like the ending. And this aftern... read more »
Since last week's Photo Fun object was kind of a girly thing, I promised I'd pick a guy thing for the next contest. Not an easy task in a house with four women. But I finally found something that would work, and I posted a top-view of The Professor's shaving brush, as Erik, of American in Spain, very quickly guessed. So Erik is our lucky winner for this week. Congrats, Erik! And here's a photo of The Professor's shaving brush:
Now I'm off to work on my new blog layout. Exactly what am I up to, you ask? Wel... read more »
This morning I shelled out seventy some odd euros on a cat that has a cold, which was not a very good start to this Monday.True, I did get pretty-boy vet today, which makes taking a hit to the pocketbook a little easier. But still, seventy euros, ouch! Now, Pretty-Boy has a face that, aside from the facial hair, is just too pretty to belong to a guy. More than handsome, you'd have to say he's beautiful, which is just weird. And he's got these amazingly long eyelashes, the kind that many women would sell ... read more »
This has to be a really fast post, because it's almost dinner time. Today's my birthday, so I've been out all day, and I haven't had a chance to get on the internet at all. But I just had to post the winner of this week's photo contest. And the lucky winner is....Erik, of American in Spain! Congrats Erik. He said it was a solar panel on an outdoor lamp, and that's what it is. I took the photo of one of the lamps we have in our garden. This is one of the few that are left, because our cats have broken most... read more »
