This week's workout involves timing and subdivisions. Pick a nice slow tempo to work with. The idea is to keep the exact same tempo up, but switch subdivisions. That means how many notes you play per beat. Here is week 5 Finally!This exercise works on economy picking using the Lydian Augmented Scale. Pay extra special attention to the picking indication as there will be groups of two down strokes, or two upstrokes in a row.Remember, when economy picking, the sets of two stroked in a row have to be connected like a mini sweep. You should not actually pick like a free stroke, more like push straight through the strings. read more »
This week we have diminished run. It is an F Whole-Half Diminished exercise using eight note triplets. The string skipping can be confusing, but it is important to keep a constant up-down motion no matter where the next note falls. Keeping the alternate picking motion is what will actually make the exercise possible to play fast with that really consistent texture.
