Remember the Victims, Not the Violators

content discovered on Saturday, December 15, 2012

Yesterday, the world witnessed yet another senseless act of violence in the mass shooting carried out at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.  I first began to see the news on the event while I was working at the public middle school where I am employed, and when I came home later yesterday evening, I found myself unable to watch the details unfold on the nightly news.  It wasnt only that I didnt want my own young son to hear the words children dead or teachers killed spoken repeatedly o... read more »

The Caregiver

content discovered on Friday, December 14, 2012

When the kids are sick, Tiny offers extra snuggles. She's such a sweet little kitty (when she wants to be).Fortunately Bilal's sickness was very brief. He didn't run a fever after when it was checked by the school nurse. I kept him out of school the next day and took him to work with me. And today he went back to school with no problems. His appetite isn't the greatest, but I know that will pick up as soon. Thankfully, it always does. And I'm glad he's well, in time for his next karate test this weekend... read more »

It's been quiet

content discovered on Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Quiet here on my blog for sure, but also at home. There really hasn't been much going on, except school, work and the usual. This past weekend Safa took the ACT (let's see how she does on her first attempt) and Hamza went to a math tournament. No individual awards for him, but his team did win 3rd in the first (large school) division. Bilal and I spent most of the day with his cousins while Zakir had to go make rounds. So I suppose we were all busy, in a mundane kind of way. After the boys ran around for ... read more »

Brothers In Arms – Invictus

content discovered on Thursday, December 06, 2012

ähnliche Themen: Antidote No Peace In Our Time 30 Jahre haben die New Yorker von Andidote schon auf... Done Some More Work...

content discovered on Wednesday, December 05, 2012

Hello and how's your hair today? I've done some more work and since theEnglish Prompost was so popular, I've extended it and added more styles. I also went to bed at 12 am doing a philosophy essay and drank coffee for the first time to keep myself awake - with a bottle of Coca Cola in the afternoon - and the crash and burn was just terrific. Never have I felt so high... and so low all the space of a couple of hours ever. Just don't try it if you're new to the business, I warned you. Today's post is abou... read more »

Red Leaves of Autumn

content discovered on Wednesday, November 28, 2012

© Les Taylor Photo (Thanks, Leslie!) What exactly would be the seasonal opposite of Spring has Sprung?  Im not sure what cute name it would be given, but I saw a lovely example of it today.  See, here in the South we have relatively mild falls and winters, and many of our trees never do the color change routine that is so common to places farther north.  To see a tree in full fall bloom is somewhat of a rarity here. It rained—well, drizzled—for most of the day today. There was very little blue sky, and... read more »

A Late Thanksgiving Post.

content discovered on Friday, November 23, 2012

Ohmygosh! I can't believe it's thanksgiving already. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! (albeit a bit late). Did the turkey roast alright? How's the mini family reunion? I hope you had fun spending your thanksgiving yesterday. Sadly, my country doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving even with all reasons to. But don't you worry about me, there's still lots of fun to be had where I'm from! Anyway, while we're on the topic, I'm going to celebrate by naming the things I'm thankful for this year. 1. My life. I am so tha... read more »

How is First Grade going?

content discovered on Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Great! This year, again, Bilal has an excellent teacher who is motivating him to learn. His reading has taken off; he is comfortably reading second grade level books, and we actually checked out some third grade level books from the library to read together. In September Bilal was 'Favorite Fish' and had an opportunity to share all sorts of things with the class. And this past week he was nominated 'Good Citizen' of the week. It's nice, these are little honors that rotate around the class, so every child... read more »

All County Choir

content discovered on Friday, November 16, 2012

I took Safa this evening to Boutwell Auditorium for the Jefferson County All County choir performance. The boys stayed at home (actually, at the hotel), which was good, since by the time we got back it was nearly 10pm. From where I was seated in the huge auditorium it was impossible to take photos of the choir, but I did take one of the girls after their performance. Yes, they both were actually carrying around their anatomy books, to study while waiting for the concert to start! And as soon as we got ... read more »
