Spicy Chorizo Dip

Discovered on Thursday, May 17, 2012

So here is an embarrassing admission. We have lived in Southern California since September of 2008 and we have only tried chorizo for the first time like a month ago. That’s four years without tasting one of our region’s most delicious local delicacies. It is pretty ridiculous. So I finally got around to picking some up a few weeks ago, but for some reason, I pictured it being like a sausage in a casing, and that I would slice it then brown it with some garlic and red bell pepper and maybe serve with a f... read more »

Homemade Cheez-Its

Discovered on Sunday, April 29, 2012

After seeing these on Dara’s blog, Gen Y Foodie, I was smitten. We needed to make them. But instead of being all responsible and healthy with the olive oil and flax seeds, I went with good old butter. We love butter. We love Julia Child’s "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" for that reason. So back to the cheez-its – It is exciting for some reason to make a homemade version of packaged food item. Especially in this case, the buttery, cheesy crackers emerging fresh from the oven makes for such a lovely ... read more »

Roasted Cauliflower Dippers with Smoked Paprika...

Discovered on Thursday, April 19, 2012

I find cauliflower to be a rather deceptive and mendacious vegetable. Why? A head of cauliflower is a pleasing sight to behold. All those pretty white florets all bunched together in a nest of green leaves – it looks like a pretty flower! Even the word floret is pleasing, evoking images of tiny flowers. And once this vegetable catches your eye, it is hard to resist. And then you bring it home and put it in the fridge until you need a veggie side dish. And then that day comes when you actually need that v... read more »

Nutella Fudge Candy

Discovered on Thursday, April 12, 2012

If I were handing out awards to the contents of our pantry, sweetened condensed milk would definitely get an MVP. Hmm...I’m loving this idea, actually. Seth, Max and I could get all dolled up, head to the kitchen with stacks of envelopes, and announce winners for awards, like the people's choice award for favorite vegetable, or most improved in pasta... Anyway, sweetened condensed milk always comes through. You can turn it into dulce de leche (and put it on anything and everything – ice cream, cookies, t... read more »

Kale Chips with Parmesan Cheese and Garlic

Discovered on Sunday, March 18, 2012

Oh, kale. Kale is such a vain vegetable. It loves nothing more than jumping into the oven to get all crispy and chip-like. Kale likes partaking in this act because it turns kale into a beloved food. Once kale emerges from the oven all crisped up and full of flavorings, even all those people who say they don’t like kale end up liking it. And kale just wants to be liked. Ingredients1 bunch curly kale1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese¼ teaspoon kosher salt1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper3 cloves garlic,... read more »

Smooth and Creamy Carrot Dip with Tahini

Discovered on Thursday, March 15, 2012

The carrots in this house are staging an uprising. They feel they never get to be the star of the show. I guess they do have a point (as evidenced by the roasted radish and carrot dish and vegetable dip). So we are giving into their demands for the royal treatment….their very own dip! We love how the sweetness of the carrots works with the creamy nuttiness of this tahini dip. Ingredients3 bunches baby carrots, peeled½ cup tahini + 1 tablespoon 2 teaspoon sesame oil1 teaspoon canola oil1 teaspoon honey1 ½... read more »

Rice Krispies Treats with Dulce de Leche and Ch...

Discovered on Thursday, March 08, 2012

Yep, we are posting Rice Krispies treats again! We are seriously addicted to these goodies. So crispy and gooey and sweet, with a bit of saltiness thrown in there…how does one not love these? In this particular recipe, the dulce de leche, a type of creamy caramel, adds a rich sweetness that makes these bad boys even yummier. And like most caramel, it pairs really well with a bit of chocolate. Ingredients ½ cup unsalted butter16 ounce bag marshmallows½ teaspoon kosher salt½ teaspoon vanilla extract11 ½ cu... read more »

Bite Size Fruit Skewers with Champagne Chocolat...

Discovered on Sunday, February 05, 2012

This treat is almost designed for Valentines Day. It is a simple little recipe that takes strawberries and melted chocolate to a new level of fun, flavor, and presentation. The dark chocolate has been melted with cream and mixed with a little champagne, and along with the classic strawberry, we’ve added grapefruit and mint leaves for a richness of flavor. These bite size little skewers from heaven are decadent, fresh, healthy, and romantic, and they only take about 15 minutes to put together.Ingredients ... read more »
