content discovered on Sunday, February 24, 2013

I have been meaning to learn a new language in so long and Im glad I finally got the time to do it now. I chose Spanish mainly because it is the easiest language to learn (its a lot closer to Tagalog) and the school is one ride away from home. One of my professional [...] read more »

Five Simple Mnemonics for Spanish Learners

content discovered on Thursday, February 14, 2013

1) Este, ese, esta, esas… This, these, those… Get them confused? Just remember the simple phrase "this and these have t's". The Spanish words for this/that (este, esta, estes, estas) contain the letter "t" while the Spanish words for that/those (ese, esa, eses, esas) have no t's. 2) You can learn some of the irregular command verbs with the sentence "Vin Diesel has ten weapons, eh?" How Music Can Teach You a Foreign Language

content discovered on Monday, January 28, 2013

Listening to music in another language is a great way to learn pronunciation, culture, grammar and vocabulary. If you can find music that you enjoy listening to and that gets "stuck" in your mind (or as they say in German, an Ohrwurm or "earworm"), you can easily and enjoyably assimilate not only new words, but complicated grammatical structures. It has never been easier to find music with sites such as YouTube or iTunes and play them on your portable music device while doing other activities. Things h... read more »

What's a Hashtag and How do You Say Hashtag in ...

content discovered on Saturday, January 26, 2013

I wrote about coining or "transcreating" new words and the translation of the word "hoarder" in a previous post: See Hoarding Words. This month I wanted to discuss the translation of the word "hashtag". For those of you who are not familiar with Twitter (and I wasn't until recently so don't feel bad), a hashtag refers to the # (or "hash") symbol placed before a word or phrase (or "tag") in a "tweet" so that users can search for Twitter posts and with any luck obtain relevant results. For example, ... read more »

Alba Spanish Buffet

content discovered on Sunday, November 11, 2012

For my sister's birthday this year, we decided to dine at Alba. Me and my family's love for food is no secret. Now that we're all a little older, schedule prevents us from being together most of the week. The weekends are usually time for family and food. This weekend was extra special, though. Camille turned 22 this week, and (aside from bringing home tons... read more »
