Internet, meet Apollo!

content discovered on Sunday, October 28, 2012

Knightley: 1 year 2 months oldApollo: 7 weeks 3 days oldSo, in two weeks times we are embarking on Downunder Assistance Dog: Mark 2. The temperament testing last week went really well. We travelled up to Taree without a hitch and met the lovely breeders and their adult dogs. Then finally, we met the litter. They were so lovely, lively and happy. It was great to see what a lovely area they had been brought up in. I was pretty nervous and worried, because we'd come a fairly long way to find a new assistanc... read more »

Physical Maturity in a Herding Puppy, is it imp...

content discovered on Friday, October 26, 2012

I've been in a discussion on "when to start a pup" in his herding training, and in addition to some of the usual "reasons" of when to start or not start, which include maturity, is the pup "serious" or just "playing" (tail up, etc) there's also some other factors I like to consider, such as development. Physical development. There's really no hard and fast, "this is the time" to start a pup, Border Collie puppies are all different, as are training styles and experience of the trainer. Some pups mature ea... read more »

Why do we enter Sheepdog Trials?

content discovered on Sunday, October 21, 2012

Why do we enter dog trials? (sheep or cattle, no matter, it's the same) Seriously, why do you enter a dog trial? Why do I enter a dog trial? I imagine all of us could have a different answer to that one, but I'll fill you in on my thoughts, feel free to comment on yours :-) Lill, ranch and trial dog extrordinaire I love the challenge, difficult sheep, challenging field and terrain. Many of our trials are on rented sheep: range ewes, commercial flocks that are not used to dogs. So, it can be boom or bus... read more »

Knightley: 1 year 2 months 3 weeks oldPossible puppy: 6 weeks 1 day oldI know, I'm a very bad girl. It has been so very long since my last post. Hah, that sounds quasi-religious.The reason, once again, is Oz Working Dogs. When I started it I was rather tentative about its prospects of suceeding, but now it is very obvious that it is taking off in a big way. Especially this last week I have been working very hard - probably too hard - and I'm exhausted. I am stocking all sorts of things now, toys, first a... read more »

Ranch Life~ It isn't always "fun"...

content discovered on Wednesday, October 17, 2012

...but it is, interesting! Living on a ranch, is more work than many realize, there's chores to do, sure, but then, there is "work", what's the difference you might ask?Well, chores, are those things you do every day, feeding the sheep, collecting eggs from the chickens, moving the sheep to the pasture, locking them up at night to keep them safe from predators. One could fill a whole page with my list of daily "chores". And then there is the "fun", training the dogs, working with students and their dogs.... read more »

Breed Bits: American Pitbull Terrier

content discovered on Thursday, September 27, 2012

(SOURCE:http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/dogbreeds/photos-AB/americanpitbullterriersf7.jpg)The American Pitbull Terrier or simply called Pitbull is one of the most misjudged dog breeds in the world. It is a powerful, extremely loyal and protective dog that is misguided to be fighting dogs. But the breed is actually a passionate one that is always eager to please his/her dog parent. As long as the dog parent knows how to take care of dogs affectionately and firmly (as a pack leader), Pitbulls can be one o... read more »

Weekend Update

content discovered on Monday, September 24, 2012

Happy Sunday!! Not much going on here this weekend. After my excitement of the start of fall, I went to CrossFit. Good little workout with burpees and a lateral jump. You can bet I'll be doing a workout this week with these . Then I hustled home to get ready for a presentation I had to give on low sodium diet. The group was awesome and asked lots of questions. I love when I give a presentation and the group is really interactive and asks lots of questions. Makes me feel like I might have ignited a few c... read more »

content discovered on Sunday, September 16, 2012

Knightley: 1 year 1 month 2 weeks 5 days oldNew prospective pup: 10 days oldWow, more than two weeks without a new post! What a very bad girl I am. I have been very busy, is my only defense. I've been doing a LOT of work on my Oz Working Dogs website, adding more and more products to it. It's coming along well, and I'm just about to have a sale in a bit. I've been selling fairly well, wouldn't mind business picking up a bit more .... but it'll get there I'm sure. I learnt from this blog it takes a while ... read more »
