Everyone knows the story of the Amsterdam girl in hiding during World War II. The Diary of Ann Frank is one of the most beloved tales of the struggle Holland's Jewish population faced during the Nazi occupation. But few know Continue reading read more »

The EURO-Wars, what happens in the end, regardless

content discovered on Monday, January 23, 2012

Shooting war or otherwise over the Euro, the essential End-Up here is that everyone gets ripped off.Sounds very simple doesn't it. Read the fine print in the derivatives and it gives the creditor the right to seize the underlying collateral without any proceeds. Sound like a "Confession of Judgement Clause" ? It should because it is the same as. So when this is all said and done, it will end up that a majority of the currently productive assets on this planet will be concentrated in fewer yet hands......... read more »

We Die Alone

content discovered on Thursday, September 01, 2011

When I picked up "We Die Alone" from the library I didn't remember anything about it. Couldn't help but wonder why I'd pick out (yet another) depressing book. The title is misleading - the meaning is without the help of others, we'll die alone. This book, a nonfiction accountof a WWII survival story, proves that without question.Honestly, this is one of the most incredible survival stories I've ever read, and I've read quite a few. At the start, the author, David Howarth, states that all he wrote really h... read more »

Children of Terror

content discovered on Friday, July 01, 2011

Children of Terror is a nonfictional account of two women's experience in Nazi concentration camps. The women actually met many years later in the US and discovered they had quite a bit in common. As their conversations continued they decided to share their stories - this book is the result. As mentioned, these two had much in common, and yet, they also were opposites in other ways. These comparisons are part of what makes this book a worthwhile read. These womenwere born onlymonths apart in the year 193... read more »

The Bleeding Sky

content discovered on Friday, June 10, 2011

I've been reading quite a few books about the Holocaust lately. I try to read a wide range of books, but recently Amazon's "you may also like" feature has pointed me toward other Holocaust books. This is how I came across "The Bleeding Sky" by Louis Brandsdorfer and I'm very glad I found it.Currently this book appearsonly to be available on Kindle. It may be a self published book - it's not totally clear, at least, not to me. In the introduction, a woman writes that both her parents were Holocaust surviv... read more »

The Secret Holocaust Diaries

content discovered on Friday, May 27, 2011

"The Secret Holocaust Diaries" is one of many books I've read about the Holocaust. This is a nonfiction account of a young Russian girl's life during WWII. Nonna Bannister kept diaries throughout the war and the years that followed. She kept her diaries a secret, even from her husband and children, until the 1990's. This book was compiled from her translated diaries and, per her wishes, was not published until after her death.Nonna and her family lived in Russia/Ukraine. They wereChristians, members of t... read more »

Those Who Save Us

content discovered on Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Another book set during World War II? Another novel about the Holocaust? Yes. Just finished reading "Those Who Save Us" by Jenna Blum. I was absolutely unable to put it down - finished it in 3 days. This historical novel alternates between the 1940's and the 1990's. The main characters are Anna and her daughter Trudie. The sections of the book in the 40's are setin Germany and told from Anna's point of view. Fifty years later, Trudie and Anna are living in Minnesota and we see through Trudie's point of vi... read more »
