Christmas in Oneonta

content discovered on Wednesday, December 24, 2014

When I was 19 I moved to Oneonta in upstate New York. In the Mohawk language, Oneonta is believed to mean "place of open rocks" but the people who live there now call it "the city of the hills." The winters are long and dark in the shadow of those hills but like everywhere else, especially at Christmas, people find a way to bring light to the darkness. I took a painting class while I was in Oneonta and painted this scene of holiday carolers, inclu... read more »

The primer coat of paint in the keeping room gives us an idea of what it will eventually look like. We have chosen a warm, neutral beige, to keep the space open. October 3, 201... read more »

Fullmoon

content discovered on Tuesday, September 02, 2014

Earlier in the month, the full moon was extra luminous because of its proximity to the earth, a "supermoon." At the shore, all full moons are amazing, as they rise over the horizon, especially if the timing has it rising after dark. The reflections on the water are brilliant and the cool bluish light bounces around effectively lighting the entire beach. Full Moon Fishing TripI had beenwanting to try a moonlight painting, but coulda moonscapeactually be done en plein air? I suppose, but before Itried... read more »
